In Hollywood’s fashion world, actresses like Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor had left a lasting mark. At that time, beauty was primarily associated with women, and the connection between men and fashion, or men and attractive clothing, was almost non-existent. It was in this backdrop that one gentleman revolutionized men’s fashion, making them look stylish and graceful.
Originally from Italy, he dreamed of becoming a doctor and even enrolled in medical college. But soon, the urge to join the military took hold, and he left his studies to serve in the armed forces. After his service ended, he began working as a salesman in a department store to make ends meet. However, he did not waste those seven years simply putting up shelves. He keenly observed customers — their preferences, market trends, and demands. He realized that, unlike women’s fashion, the men’s ready-to-wear clothing industry was not taken seriously. Seeing this as an opportunity, he started creating diverse designs for men's apparel.
In a short time, he began supplying goods to big companies like Allegri, Hilton, and Secon. This success spurred him to innovate further. He ventured into designing underwear and swimwear. With a longstanding interest in sports, he also decided to enter the athletic apparel market. His work was synonymous with quality and innovation. His brand’s logo even appeared on the uniforms of England’s national football teams. Hollywood, too, fell in love with his creations, entrusting him with the costume design of over a hundred films.
When renowned actor Richard Gere wore an outfit designed by him, it was clear that he was destined for greatness. Having conquered Europe and then America, he was now ready to explore new avenues. His brand became synonymous with fashion, entering the vocabulary of elite circles. Once you win the hearts of customers, whatever new products you bring to market are embraced enthusiastically. His perfumes spread their fragrance worldwide.
His popularity caught the attention of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, who appointed him as a goodwill ambassador. His name was also associated with Samsung’s LCD TVs and mobile phones as a partner. Even today, goods and services across industries—from watches and cosmetics to hotels, music albums, and sports—are eager to associate with his legacy.
Under the banner of the Armani Group, whose motto “The perfect union between harmony and elegance” captured its spirit, Giorgio Armani, the man behind this empire, passed away at the age of 91 on 4 September 2025.
Rest in Peace...
